This paper examines how sensationalistic narratives around Artificial Intelligence shape HR practitioners’ perceptions of AI in recruitment. Through interviews with HR professionals in Italy, it reveals that many view algorithms as neutral and believe bias can be corrected through system training. However, this simplistic understanding overlooks the intersectional nature of bias and the influence of power structures. The paper argues for a more critical approach to AI, emphasizing the need for deeper engagement with AI outcomes.
